Samsung starts mass production of 20nm GDDR5 for game consoles

Samsung has started mass production of GDDR5 memory modules on 20nm. It is 8Gb chips which Samsung expects that they will be used in include laptops and game consoles.

Samsung points out that the memory data with 8Gbit / s by pumps, which it would be up to four times as fast as comparable DDR3 memory. The manufacturer makes GDDR5 memory like other memory chips at 20nm.

The GDDR5 memory should end up in graphics cards for PCs, in laptops and game consoles. It is unknown what the manufacturer means by that, but Samsung seems to hint that there are new versions of current game consoles on which that new memory is. Include Sony and Microsoft have in the past given the PS3 and Xbox 360 updates with new components.

Samsung does not specify to which customers are the memory. It is also unclear to what products the GDDR5 memory first appears.
