Samsung starts mass production of 6GB DDR4 modules for smartphones




Samsung has started mass production of 12GB chips lpddr4-dram. The chips can be used for modules in 3GB or 6GB. Samsung makes the chips on its existing 20nm- class process’, but knows how to effectively deploy this production.

Samsung logo Samsung has been making 8Gb chips lpddr4-dram at 20nm- class -productieprocedé, but the group is now capable of 12GB chips mass production. Allows Samsung combine two or four chips on a package respectively 3GB- and 6GB modules for tablets and smartphones. Currently allows Samsung lpddr4 modules up to 4GB.

The lpddr4 memory works at 4266Mbps, 30 percent faster than Samsung’s 8Gb lpddr4 chips. At the same time consumption compared to the 8Gb chips would be 20 percent lower.

According to the Korean group come 6GB packages to ‘vlaggenschip’ smartphones of the new generation, but which mobile devices with the memory size provided the company says no. Incidentally, Samsung holds 20nm- class process’ in the chips on a production of baked be somewhere between 20 and 30nm.
