Samsung starts mass production thin 16-megapixel sensor

Samsung has begun mass production of its S5K3P3 image sensor for mobile devices, and third parties can now purchase them from the group. It is a 16-megapixel sensor on the basis of 1μm-pixels, which reduces the thickness significantly.

Due to the sensor 1μm on-pixels to base, the thickness of the camera module with respect to a 16-megapixel variant may, on the basis of 1,12μm-pixels by 20 percent decrease to 5mm. Manufacturers can therefore produce according to Samsung thinner mobile devices without compromising on resolution.

In addition, supports the sensor Samsung Isocell-technology, which is to prevent cross talk between adjacent pixels by the application of minuscule physical barriers between the pixels. This should result in lower noise and more accurate color reproduction.

Samsung uses the S5K3P3 sensor before his own Galaxy A8, the slimmest phone from the manufacturer to date, and also other manufacturers can immediately remove the sensor.
