Scientists create chip that ‘health’ of measuring battery

Scientists from Nanyang Technological University have developed a chip that can say something about the state of health of a battery. As a warning may be given when there is fire due to bad condition of the battery.

The university, which is based in Singapore, explains on his website how the chip works. With a specially developed algorithm that looks at measurement patterns can be estimated that the battery is still in good health, and if that is not the case can be timely warning, according to the makers. To generate the patterns are made electrochemical and thermodynamic measurements, but what that exactly is not clear. The researchers have patented their technology, which has been in development for some years, been given.

The scientists developed chip they can not only ‘health’ estimate, but can also be optimized charging of the battery. Consequently, a battery can be quickly loaded and would occur less degradation of battery capacity.

Because the chip is very small, it can be used in almost all batteries. Soon to begin commercial operation of the technology, as the research leaders have set up a start-up for the further development of the chip. By the end of next year hopes to start up, which bears the name KVI, starting with the issue of licenses for the battery chip.
