Scientists develop compression method for quantum information




Scientists have found a method of compression applied to information stored in qubits. The technique could be scaled up exponentially and thus quantum information must be stored more efficiently.

The compression method has been developed by researchers at Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, who report their findings in the scientific journal Physical Review Letters have published. According to researchers, it is possible for compression to be applied to quantum information stored in qubits, so that there is less of it to be the same amount of information to be stored.

In their experiments, the researchers qubits by using the spin of photons. Use Thus, the scientists showed that three qubits can be up to two qubits compressed. They also discovered that their compression method can be scaled up exponentially: this means that the information stored in 1000 qubits can be reduced to 10 qubits, and the information can be packed in just 20 qubits in a million qubits.

To apply compression, it is necessary in this case photons to also be prepared in the same way all the qubits of the same quantum particles, the researchers said. The current plan is to an experimental technique: when the scientists do not mention their way of quantum compression can be applied in practice.
