Find a Question:
Scientists have found the oldest twin of our sun
Astronomers have found a new star, which they dubbed the twin of our sun . If we consider that only the number of stars in our galaxy is a few hundred billion, it is difficult to doubt that somewhere there are very similar to our own light. Scientists know this, but for the moment found such stars is not very much.
However, their latest find HIP 102152, located 250 light years from us is interesting for astronomers in the first place because it is the oldest star twin of our sun. Scientists estimate the age of HIP 102152 in 8.2 billion years old, which means it is almost twice the age of our own Sun. The importance of this finding is that scientists will be able to understand what processes will occur with our own luminary over the future of several billion years.
For its opening international team of astronomers used the Very Large Telescope of the European Southern Observatory.
“For decades, astronomers have searched for the twin of the Sun, to learn more about the events that await our star in the future. However, since the discovery in 1997, the first similar to our sun stars, scientists have been able in the future to find a few of these. But thanks to ultra-sharp optics of very large telescope, scientists have had a hope to answer the question of whether our Sun special “- explains Jorge Melendez of the Brazilian University of Sao Paulo.
