Scientists have learned how to restore lithium-ion batteries using organic materials




Due to the high power and the relative reliability of lithium-ion batteries are an effective and reliable source of energy, is widely used in modern electronics. However, these batteries have a significant disadvantage – it is a very toxic process of recycling. But Swedish scientists say they have found a way that can partially solve this problem.

The current production of lithium-ion batteries depends on a large number of lithium reserves are limited. In addition, after the expiration of the useful life rather difficult to recover lithium from inorganic materials.

To solve this problem, experts from the Swedish University have developed a technology for the extraction of lithium from used batteries, combining it with a reducible biological material. The material scientists used alfalfa seeds and pine resin. With this technology, scientists were able to create a battery that is the size and capacity is not inferior to conventional lithium-ion batteries.

“We believe that our invention may open the door to the environmental and energy-efficient future batteries” – says one of the scientists.

Researchers have demonstrated that the assembled lithium from used batteries can be easily restored by simply adding the biomaterial. Scientists claim that their invention is able to recover 99% of the efficiency of the battery .

And although this is not the first example of the use of organic materials to restore the batteries, the researchers claim that they have managed to create a totally new concept.
