Scientists have learned to control living cells with light


Scientists from Washington University in St. Louis have demonstrated the ability to control living cells with light. How to say those same scientists, this discovery will be the first step towards the possibility of controlling insulin secretion and even heart rate intensity.

Professor of Neurology, Dr. Gautam H explained that the light in this case acts as a kind of switch for cells:

In most cases the behavior of the cells is a direct result of the capability of receiving signals in their environment. New experiments showed that the cells can receive light signals.

The ability to control cells appeared when the scientists have settled to the immune cell light-sensitive protein. When you add it, the cell has to respond to the impact of the laser light, and allowed for her to choose the right direction for scientists.

Dr. Gautam and a team of researchers set themselves to find a way to manually activate receptor cells.

It is likely that one day we will achieve the possibility of manual targeting immune cells to problem areas, such as bacterial infections and various inflammations.
