Scientists have proposed a fuel powered cars from yeast and sugar

U.S. scientists say they have developed a new source of renewable energy – biofuels produced from genetically modified yeast cells and ordinary table sugar. Theoretically, the technology can be used to supply the motor vehicles .

How to say researchers from the University of Texas at Austin, the new yeast produce oils and fats, known as lipids, which can be used instead of petroleum-derived products. Since yeasts grow well on sugar, biofuels generated in this way, a chemistry professor and lead researcher Hal Alper calls “renewable version of sweet crude”, reports international news agency United Press International.

New technology allows highly concentrated oils and fats by fermentation, cell culture process with a view to convert sugar in products such as alcohol, or acid gases, according to a paper published in the scientific journal Nature.

According to scientists, genetic engineering of yeast cells can convert up to 90 percent of the mass in the cell lipids, which can then be used to produce biodiesel.

Derived lipids can take them and powered car – says Alper.

Gradually, renewable energy is getting more and more popular. Scientists from around the hard work over the cheapening of biofuels .
