Scientists Invent A Pen That Identifies Cancer In 10 Seconds

team of scientists at the University of Texas said they invented a pen-shaped tool that can identify tumor tissue in 10 seconds. The pen, called MasSpec Pen , accelerates the test by up to 150 times and should make surgery more accurate. Previous, the study summary said that the tests taken from 253 cancer patients lasted about 10 seconds and were found to be 96 percent accurate during that time period.

The scientists said that each type of cancer has its own molecular structure acting as a fingerprint, and a drop of water is released that absorbs the particles when the MasSpec Pen pen is placed on the suspected tissue, The pen then drives the polluted water to a much larger machine known as the mass spectrometer that analyzes the particles and provides an assessment of whether the cancer is present.

When the patient undergoes surgery to remove the tumor, the surgeon tries to remove all the cancerous tissues while preserving the healthy tissue. The larvae can now send the tissue samples to the analysis laboratory, which can take days. They can freeze the tissue and analyze it during the operation, taking between 15 and 20 minutes .

At the end of the analysis, MasSpec Pen will automatically display the word “natural” or “cancer” on the computer screen and may show the name of the subtype for some cancers.
