Scientists made the mouse brain transparent and established its three-dimensional model

Published April 10 in the online scientific journal Nature, a study of Karl Deisseroth and his colleagues at Stanford University, California, said that the scientists were able to make the brain mouse absolutely transparent. Scientific minds explain that such a possibility they appeared immediately after they used a mixture of several chemicals.

Due to chemical treatment, which is dubbed the «CLARITY», scientists have been able to get rid of are in the brain lipids, which blocked the passage of light, and to consider the structure of neural networks. Moreover, as a result of the experiment, scientists have studied the structure of the brain under the microscope, and then using the data to reconstruct its three-dimensional image.

“The need to produce precise images of a complex system for the understanding of the functioning of such a system against the overall outlook is one of the key problems in modern biology” – the scientists say.

“We were able to solve this problem by using a new method, which we call« CLARITY »(purity). The method has allowed to transform the intact tissue in the nanoporous hydrogel hybrid form (three-dimensional network of soluble polymers), which, though remained solid, but it became crystal clear even at the molecular level. ”

Scientists believe that the day is near when «CLARITY» will be used not only for the study of healthy brain , but also in the case of his illness and to monitor the process of aging.
