Script Rise of the Tomb Raider topped by American Writers Guild
The Writers Guild of America awards prizes each year for the best script in various categories. In the Videogame Writing was the script of Rise of the Tomb Raider named the best of 2015. The team writers of the game is led by Rhianna Pratchett.
Rhianna Pratchett, daughter of the 2015 deceased Terry Pratchett wrote the script for Rise of the Tomb Raider with lead narrative designer John Stafford, narrative designer Cameron Suey and Philip Gelatt that additional writing groomed. The jury of the Writers Guild of America concluded the quartet has made an outstanding achievement in videogame writing the script for the action game.
The script of Rise of the Tomb Raider was chosen over those of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Pillars of Eternity. The team around Pratchett’s succeeds Neil Druckmann, which was awarded a year ago for the script of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: Left Behind. The competition consisted of Alien: Isolation, Assassin’s Creed Unity and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
It is the first time that Pratchett is rewarded by the WGA, although she is often praised for its writing. In particular, the scripts she wrote for Mirror’s Edge, the Dutch Overlord and the previous Tomb Raider received much appreciation.
Rise of the Tomb Raider appeared the end of 2015 for Xbox One, is now also available for Windows and will appear later this year for PlayStation 4. There will probably be a sequel. A top executive of publisher Square Enix dropped in August 2015 slip to Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider part of a trilogy. As Pratchett for the first two parts has written the script, it seems logical that she is also involved in the third.
