Secure Turing Phone gets Sailfish OS instead of Android

Turing Robotics Industries brings its secure Turing Phone in April 2016 off. The unit will no longer be a modified version of Android, but will run on Sailfish OS Jolla. The plan was initially to deliver the aircraft in December 2015.

Since August 2015, the Turing Phone could be reserved. The company behind the smartphone has people who have ordered a copy of a newsletter sent containing the news that the phone comes in April 2016. Earlier, the CEO promised that the device would still not later than the first quarter of 2016 appear. According to TRI Sailfish OS works fine on the hardware and users can install Android apps via an application store. Or a switch to Sailfish OS implications for the security of the smart phone the company does not report.

The move to Sailfish OS is for the buyers of the phone probably as a surprise. TRI has always communicated that the smartphone would get a customized version of Android 5.1. Sailfish OS is the operating system Jolla, which now finds in recent months in heavy weather. Although Jolla new funding received and focuses on the development of the operating system, the future of Sailfish is uncertain. The company is not known why it was decided to drop Android.

The material of the housing is a metal alloy that TRI himself calls liquidmorphium. It would be stronger than aluminum and titanium. The housing is waterproof to ten meters deep with a nano coating. Currently it is not possible to place an order. Interested parties can register to receive information on when the Turing Phone can be re-ordered.
