Sennheiser shows module for Project Ara smartphone with two 3.5mm jacks

Sennheiser has presented two audio modules for Project Ara. One of these modules has two 3.5mm jacks to allow other applications than is possible on smartphones. For example, two users simultaneously listen to music from the phone.

Both modules are still an advanced concept. The prototype of Ara Project later this year in the store comes, it is not there yet. It is, therefore, not yet been possible to develop a real module already.

The first version Sennheiser already makes, called Proteus offers thanks to the two audio jacks not only the ability to listen to music together. Also, applications such as the making of a system for a microphone which is located at a specific spot aim would be possible.

The concept for the second was named Amphon and must “provide high DEFINITION audio, including a 150mW amplifier. This also has a microphone for example, students can take classes. There is also a low-latency DSP in, which should be able to program users.

Ara modular project is the upcoming smartphone from Google. Users can then purchase modules for the phone itself, such as an extra battery or better camera. The idea is that in this way the unit lasts longer and is more adaptable.
