Sharp introduces a compact smartphone with two notches in the screen

Sharp introduces a smartphone with not one but two notches in the screen: one for the front camera and one at the bottom for the fingerprint scanner. The screen is 5.2 “diagonal and in combination with the thin bezels the Aquos R2 Compact is therefore quite small.

Sharp Aquos R2 Compact The Aquos R2 Compact is smaller than its predecessor: the Aquos R Compact. It went for the same appearance with thin bezels, but had a remarkably thicker bezel at the bottom for the fingerprint scanner. The bottom bezel is even larger with this model, but the difference is already more difficult to see. The second notch means that the device is at the maximum number of notches allowed by Google on Android.

The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-soc and the resolution of the 120Hz igzo LCD is 2280 by 1080 pixels. The device has 4GB of ram, 64GB of storage, a battery with 2500mAh of capacity and a 22.6-megapixel camera. The whole thing runs on Android 9. With 131 × 64mm it is the smallest recent high-end Android smartphone.

Smartphone owners deal with the fingerprint scanner in different ways, as they often try to make the bezels as thin as possible. A well-known solution is to place the scanner on the back, but other manufacturers, including OnePlus with its 6T, put it behind the screen.

Although some Sharp devices are available in the Benelux, it is doubtful whether they will appear here. Pastor Aquos R did not appear here either. The Japanese provider Softbank will release the phone next year.
