Shield Portable Tablet Review – Competent gaming tablet

The Shield Portable Tablet contains fine hardware and locked together. He is not as light and thin as some competitors, but is still fine to use with one hand. The 8 “screen looks sharp and looks pretty neutral, but the color reproduction could have been better. The only thing that really bothers in daily practice, the swampy buttons. Thanks to the fast hardware running Android games as a train and the different ways you can stream games to the tablet are a nice addition. With its agile hardware, almost stock software, rapid updates and not too high a price, he reminds a bit of a Nexus tablet, and that is a good thing .

Nvidia is not known as a manufacturer of consumer products. The American company makes parts, processors and GPUs, and sells it to parties that they integrate into their products. It came last year change when Nvidia announced the Tegra Note 7, a small Android tablet of his own making, which was sold under its own flag. The main reason to do so was the need for a demo vehicle for Nvidia’s Tegra when brand new 4-soc.

Shield Portable Tablet

This year, Nvidia released a new soc, the Tegra K1 , and so again with a new own tablet, the Tablet Shield. Here Nvidia puts strong emphasis on gaming. On the one hand, Android games, which because of the powerful GPU in Tegra K1 soc should run well, and on streaming gaming from your own PC or via Nvidia’s GRID cloud service. About the latter we have a separate article put online; in this review we focus so primarily on the tablet itself.

The Shield tablet should cost 299 euros and for that money you get a Tegra K1 soc, coupled with 2GB memory, packaged in an 8 “tablet with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. In addition, the tablet includes speakers on the front, a stylus and a micro SD slot. On paper, so a rich featured and complete tablet. We watched it like in practice.
