Sigma series announces strong light cinema lenses to
Japanese lens maker Sigma will release cinema lenses. Many of the lenses that makes the brand, such as the 18-35mm f / 1.8 and 50-100mm f / 1.8, are already popular with filmmakers. Sigma seems to base its cinema lenses in existing designs.
In total, eight cinema Sigma lenses announced . In November appear 18-35mm and 50-100mm T2 T2 in the High Speed Zoom line. These lenses are suitable for cameras with up to a super35mm sensor; the film format that is similar to the APS-C sensor size for DSLR’s.
Zoom in the FF series is a 24-35mm T2.2 and the FF High Speed Prime-line get a 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm T1.5. These six lenses, which are suitable for full frame cameras, will be placed on the market in accordance with Sigma in the course of 2017.
The cine lenses are placed in a waterproof case and have markings that are made of luminous paint. That should make it easy for example to read off the focusing distance in the dark. The lenses feature of gears for connecting follow focus systems and all copies – with the exception of 20mm – the same filter size of 82mm. The diameter is also for all cine lenses with 95mm equivalent. Furthermore, the cinema glassware has an adjustable aperture. Autofocus is missing, but the lens mount is electronically so that metadata can be passed on to the camera.
Sigma has not announced details about the lens design, but of all the announced cinema lenses manufacturer has an autofocus variant for photography in the range. This concerns the 18-35mm and 50-100mm f / 1.8 for APS-C cameras and the 24-35mm f / 2 and the series of five f / 1.4 primes for full frame devices. It is likely that Sigma bases the optical design of the cine lenses to existing lenses.
