Signal allows users now encrypted chat




Open Whisper Systems, which offers encrypted communication, its iOS app includes the ability to send encrypted messages. Until now, Signal only be used to perform encrypted VoIP calls.

The Open Whisper Systems project had an Android app that allowed users to send encrypted messages: Text Secure . IOS users, however, could only use the app to make encrypted calls. Signal has however received support for encrypted chats now, so has the non-commercial project announced .

Signal is thereby fully compatible with Secure Text: users of the iOS app can thus exchange messages with users of the single available on Android Text Secure. Additionally Signal still offers the possibility to create encrypted VoIP conversations, where the app is compatible with RedPhone, encrypted VoIP client for Android Open Whisper Systems.

Use the apps, whose source code is public, is free; Team Open Whisper Systems consists of volunteers. According to security researcher Moxie Marlinspike, who works on the project, the costs to date are covered by donations, though not rule it out that the project in the future to ask for a small contribution from users.
