Slack and IBM work together for Watson integration in chat app

The chat app Slack announced to work with IBM to integrate the self-learning computer Watson in Slackbot. This is a virtual assistant in the Slack application. In addition, developers gain access to the ‘Conversation’-api.

Conversation is a system that allows interaction may be based on natural language. Accordingly it is IBM especially suitable for use in chat bots and other virtual interlocutors. VentureBeat writes that IBM makes a plug-in that enables developers to access the API. In this way, it should be easier to develop their own bots. It is intended that the code for the plug-in finally available through GitHub, but IBM did not release details on the schedule, according to the site.

“At present Slackbot uses input from a user and let there be a search on the loose, but there is no artificial intelligence behind that helps frosting demand,” explains Slack-CEO Stewart Butterfield from Bloomberg. That should change with the integration with Watson, which includes techniques such as sentiment analysis and text-to-speech, which the system can determine emotion and text can convert spoken language.
