Soft Machine presents VISC processor

The Californian newcomer to processor area Soft Machine releases his first VISC processor on the market. Besides the VISC CPU named Shasta, the company showed a scalable soc Mojave. Both products have come to market in 2016.

The SOC and CPU Wednesday were presented at the Linley Processor Conference. The VISC CPUs are built around “virtual cores” and “virtual hardware threads. A middleware layer translates applications from the operating system to its own instruction set VISC. Next, the tasks are then further divided about the virtual cores of the CPU, with the particularity that it is also heavy single threaded- taken on a virtual core may be divided over various hardware-cores.
