Major databases to large amounts of data in store are of course the Oracle database, the DB2 database from IBM and Microsoft SQL Server. Another database management system is Firebird that the InterBase database Inprise is originating. Inprise is now known as Borland Software, whose history on this page can be read. The relational database can be installed on different operating systems, including Linux and Windows platforms, allowing it to be deployed widely. Version 3.0.0 Firebird has come true and an announcement of the publication can be found below

Firebird 3.0 is released

The primary goals for Firebird 3.0 were to unify the server architecture and to -improvesleep support for SMP and multiple-core hardware platforms. Parallel objectives were to -improvesleep threading or engine processes and the options for sharing across page cache thread and connection boundaries.

Alongside thesis AIMS came new strategies to improve performance, query optimization, monitoring and scalability and to address the demand for more security options. A number of popular features were Introduced into the SQL language, zoals the long-awaited support for the Boolean data type and the associated logical predications.
