MariaDB originated as a fork of MySQL, after being taken over by Oracle in 2009-2010. For an overview of the differences between MariaDB and MySQL you can go to this and these pages. MariaDB is a powerful open source database server, which is especially popular as a website and forum database. The developers have released version 10.3.11. The first stable from the 10.3.x branch dates from May 2018 and has received support for five years. The concise announcement of this issue is as follows:

MariaDB 10.3.11 Release Notes

MariaDB 10.3 is an evolution of MariaDB 10.2 with several new features and backed up and reimplemented features from MySQL. MariaDB 10.3.11 is a Stable (GA) release. Thanks, and enjoy MariaDB!

Notable changes of this release include:
mysqldump now uses utf8mb4 as a default character set, instead of utf8.
sql_safe_updates can now be set as a command-line and my.cnf option.
Fixed crash on upgrade from MariaDB 10.1 or earlier: MDEV-12023
MDEV-17073 – INSERT … ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE is now less deadlock-prone
MDEV-17289 – Multi-pass recovery fails to apply some redo log records
MDEV-17541 – KILL QUERY during lock wait at FOREIGN KEY check no longer causes hang
MDEV-17531 – Fix crash in RENAME TABLE with FOREIGN KEY and FULLTEXT INDEX

Virtual column fixes: MDEV-17215, MDEV-17548
Mariabackup fixes:
MDEV-13564 – TRUNCATE TABLE now works with Mariabackup

Packages for Fedora 29 and Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic have been added in this release
As per the MariaDB Deprecation Policy, this will be the last release of MariaDB 10.3 for Fedora 27
