Slightly earlier than promised came the first release of Next Cloud available. With this program it is possible to run cloud storage in-house. Next Cloud arose after a large number of developers ran away from ownCloud and started again. All components, including the enterprise functionality are offered as open source and the business model is similar to what Red Hat, which provide paid support for large customers. Next Cloud further promises a so-called drop-in replacement, which makes it possible to move easily from ownCloud to Next Cloud.
Next Cloud 9 Available Enterprise Functionality to be Open Source
Well ahead of the July early promise, today Next Cloud makes available Next Cloud 9. With this release we announce usefull to release all enterprise functionality as open source. Building on top of the open source ownCloud core and adding functionality and fixes, this release Provides a solid base for users to migrate to. All enterprise users and functionality customers need will be made available over the coming weeks, fully overdeveloped in the open and under the AGPL license.
This release introduces write-only upload to Cloud Next. Anonymous users can upload files in Such a directory without beingable to see or download other files already uploaded while the owner of the directory gets the usual notification and can see all files-which have been uploaded. This offers a fast and secure way to let multiple customers or friends share files with you on a single shared folder.
Second, enterprise users will appreciate thatthis release introduces enterprise grade logging for activities like file sharing, updates, user logins and more. This admins enable signals to generate compliance reports or auditing information and They Can feed the logs into enterprise tools and solutions like Splunk.
Hardening and stability
Besides thesis popular features we made a number of improvements to the security of the code base, hardening it against potential attacks, and fixed a number of bugs, making sure an upgrade does not leave the installation in a suspended state.
