Software update: Winamp 3.8 build 3660 beta




Radionomy is planning to release a new version of the media player Winamp after years of silence. The beta, which was “leaked” on the internet last week, is now also officially available from the developer’s website. Radionomy took over Winamp from Nullsoft in 2015, but despite some promises it did not do anything with the software. In the new version little has changed at first glance and therefore mainly offers bug fixes. The possibilities for payment, the so-called pro-features, have also been removed. The changelog for this issue can be found below.

New URLs not being remembered after using Reset history in Open URL dialog
Various memory leaks
[gen_tray] Not showing correct current icon pack in preferences
[in_avi] Divide-by-zero crash with badly formed files (thanks ITDefensor)
[in_mp3] Crashing with some ID3v2 tags
[ml_wire] Slow loading issue
[ssdp] Crash on load if jnetlib was not correctly initialized
Minimum required OS is now Win XP sp3 (Windows 7 or higher recommended)
More general tweaks, improvements, fixes and optimizations
Moved shared DLLs to Winamp \ Shared folder
All former “Pro” licensed functions (Winamp is now 100% freeware again)
gen_jumpex & UnicodeTaskbarFix (making way for native implementations)
[in_wm] DRM support
CD playback and ripping now using native Windows API (instead of Sonic)
MP3 Decoder now mpg123 based (instead of Fraunhofer)
AAC Decoder now using Media Foundation (Vista and higher)
H.264 Decoder now using Media Foundation (Vista and higher)
