A new development house of Wine has been published with version number 4.2. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows api and makes it possible to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and macOS. A large group of developers contributes to Wine and it has been decided to release a new so-called development version every two weeks instead of waiting for a number of new functions to be completed. A stable edition appears a few times a year. The database of applications that work under Wine, with or without small adjustments, contains 26,192 titles at the time of writing. In this edition the following changes and improvements have been made:

What’s new in this release:
Unicode string normalization support.
Support for ECC cryptographic keys.
Support for mixing 32/64-bit dlls in the load path.
Futex-based implementations for more synchronization primitives.
