The Solar Impulse 2 is tentatively on the ground, after having ensured that the batteries of the aircraft no longer function properly. Which overheated in the recent record flight from Japan to Hawaii. Consequently this month can not be flown.

That is the organization behind the solar airplane itself disclosed . After earlier this week landed in Hawaii found that the batteries overheated and that some of the damage can not be repaired. As a result, the batteries of the aircraft must be replaced and, according to the organization that can last for two to three weeks. This allows Solar Impulse 2 only expected in August to fly again.

Earlier this month broke the solar airplane still the record for the longest solo flight, both in distance and in terms of time, with a flight from Japan to Hawaii, about 8200 kilometers. Pilot André Borschberg had to sit five days in the plane to complete the trip. Solar Impulse 2 still has to pass a number of stages before it reaches its goal: a trip around the world. Eventually there must be landed in Abu Dhabi.
