There will be in the next edition of the World Solar Challenge, a race for solar cars, still a Twente represent. Initially, it was stated that Solar Team Twente would stop, but next year is still sent a team to the competition.

Foundation Solar Team Twente Monday decided that participate in the World Solar Challenge in 2017, when the next edition of the prestigious solar car race is held. The intention is that there will be a new team and that a new solar car built, which should be faster than the previous model, it has to know the organization given.

The decision to participate again in 2017 in the race for solar cars is remarkable because it was made for the race last year that the Twente team had to win to be able to participate also in the next edition. If that would not work would cease support from the University of Twente and Saxion College. Because Solar Team Twente second was in the race of 2015 seemed so initially no new Twente submission.

In the World Solar Challenge solar cars need a route across Australia passing through the use of electricity generated by solar panels. Dutch teams are traditionally strong: the last two editions were won by a Dutch team, and at the beginning of this century Nuon team won several times.
