Sony: CPU is the bottleneck in PlanetSide 2 on PlayStation 4

The AMD CPU of the PlayStation 4 ensures as Sony Online Entertainment sometimes that Planetside 2 is struggling with low frame rates. The console version does, according to the developer in respect little graphic for the PC version below, but the PS4 processor works sometimes prohibitive.

The developers are satisfied with the graphics capabilities of the PlayStation 4, as in an interview with Eurogamer described. The game on the console eyes as the highest settings used on the PC. However, Sony Online Entertainment admits that the game suffers from framerate issues and the publisher claims that the processor causing the problem and not the graphics card.

At times when many players to see on a screen, the processor is struggling to process all the data. “All the animation and all audio with the characters who hears running around, all projectiles that must be simulated in the client; all those things overload the CPU, not the GPU,” said Matt Higby, creative director of Sony Online Entertainment. The optimizations undertaken by the developer then also aimed, in the words of Higby, “to let the CPU run faster so the game on a consistent framerate runs the PS4. He points to the ability to run the game at 30fps instead of 60fps desired.

There is often talked about framerate problems on consoles. Assassin’s Creed Unity was set at thirty frames per second, but it turned out that is not always feasible . Ubisoft showed earlier that the AMD CPU PS4 and Xbox One bottleneck in Assassin’s Creed was Unity. Remarkable is that Sony Online Entertainment this admits to his own console.
