Sony gives PS4 version Rocket League crossplay function

with Switch, Xbox One and PC
Sony makes it possible since Monday for PlayStation 4 players of Rocket League to compete against Rocket League players who play the game on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One or PC.

Rocket League developer Psyonix reports that Rocket League is now part of the PlayStation Cross-Play Beta program. That means players on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC can start a random game and compete against each other in all online game modes.

Jeremy Dunham, a director at Psyonix, says that it is thanks among other things to the fans that cross-play is now fully possible. For the cross-play functionality in the main menu, players must tick the cross-play option under options in the gameplay tab to be able to use them.

Until now, Sony only allowed a limited form of crossplay between PlayStation 4 and PC players. The developer of Rocket League told Polygon in June 2017 that it was technically possible to fully apply crossplay, but that Sony did not yet give permission.

Sony’s lack of flexibility regarding crossplay is changing. Previously, there was a lot to do about the fact that the Japanese company officially blocked crossplay at Fortnite, but since September last year this has become possible in the popular battle-royal part of the game.
