Sony IMX230 – a 21-megapixel camera module for smartphones




Sony has introduced its new camera module IMX230, which is designed for installation in mobile devices. It uses a 1 / 2.4-inch backlit matrix and a resolution of 21 MP, the pixel size – 1.12μm. According to the creators, it is – the first module for mobile devices, which uses a phase-AF, similar to that in the mirrorless cameras Sony. AF system uses up to 192 points. One of the interesting features of the module contains the ability to record HDR-video resolutions up to 4K, HDR-photos in real time. Supports shooting video in 1080p at 60 frames per second and 720p, 120 K / sec. Besides IMX230 company plans to release a cheaper 16-megapixel unit with a similar autofocus system. The cost of the module is $ 18, and the supply should begin in the spring of 2015. It is possible that this module will be used in the future flagship Xperia Z4.
