Sony note profit increase thanks PS4 but supply image sensors drops
Sony has a 33 percent higher quarterly profit achieved in the last quarter due to good results from the PlayStation 4 division. With the delivery of camera sensors was declining and smartphone shipments were down compared to last year.
Sales of Sony’s Game & Network Services, where PlayStation 4 is covered, increased by 10.5 percent to 587.1 billion yen, converted currently around 4.46 billion euros. That the division is doing well is no surprise: Recently, Sony announced that there are now more than 35 million PS4’s has sold. In the past quarter amounted to supply 8.4 million consoles, compared with 6.4 million in the same quarter last year.
One of the other divisions where Sony wants to get growth from is used for camera sensors, but the group suffers from the slowing growth in the smartphone market. The Devices-business unit in which the sensors are subject achieved a quarterly turnover which 12.6 percent was lower than in the same period last year.
The sales of Sony’s own Xperia smartphones dropped from 11.9 million last year to 7.6 million during the quarter. Sony expects its fiscal year 2015, which also includes the current quarter, delivering 25 million Xperia phones, 36 percent fewer than the 39.1 million in fiscal year 2014.
In total, Sony made 202.1 billion yen, converted 19.6 billion for the quarter. The profit was converted 913 million.Viewing:-220
