Sony presents 4k video camera system for slow motion up to 480fps

Sony has announced a professional video camera that is able to make 4k-videos with up to 480fps. Hence his slow-motion shots to 8x in uhd resolution possible. The camera is designed for the recording of sporting events.

The new uhfr -camerasysteem consisting of the HDC-4800, a film camera with a super35mm-sensor. That sensor size is similar to the sensor in APS-C DSLR’s. According to Sony, it is a new CMOS chip, but exact specifications have not been announced yet. The camera films in 4K resolution with up to 480fps. That makes a delay of eight times possible on a playback speed of 60fps. The full HD resolution is the delay up to sixteen times.

The camera has a PL-mount lens and can also be used with an adapter in combination with B4 lenses. Then the resolution or restricted to full-hd, because these lenses have a smaller image circle.

The camera works with the BPU-4800 baseband processor. The recordings are stored on this server. There is room for four hours of 4K slow motion shots according to Sony. Also, it is possible to play back the images directly from this server, and to send out. The camera is expected to be used for capturing major sporting events. Sony says that the system during the Super Bowl 50 has already been tested.
