Sony releases Android 8 Oreo update for TVs from 2018

Sony releases Android 8 Oreo update for TVs from 2018, 2017 and part of 2016

Android 8 Oreo update for various smart TVs from Sony will be released in Europe from Wednesday. Only TVs running on Android TV and released in 2018, 2017 or in the second half of 2016 will receive the update.

Sony reports that it will release the update for Android 8 Oreo in stages, so the new version of Android TV may not be immediately available to everyone. The update should automatically be downloaded via TV in the coming weeks, although the update can also be implemented via usb.

The update ensures that Sony TVs running on Android TV are provided with a new home screen where each service or app can get its own channel. Furthermore, users can hide apps and the vertical order of the different channels can be adjusted. Sony reports that the update also offers a solution for the image noise when displaying Dolby Vision content from Netflix. The VP9 Profile 2 codec is now also supported, so YouTube videos are now also displayed with hdr.

The manufacturer releases the update for Android 8 Oreo for the TVs that came out in 2018, 2017 and the second half of 2016. TV sets that appeared on the market in early 2016 or in 2015, seem to fall outside the boat. Sony does not mention anything about whether users of these older TVs are definitely fishing behind the net.
