Sony showed how to use a flexible electronic notebook

Sony e-reader

This week, Sony unveiled a prototype electronic notebooks with non-standard screen size. Unlike traditional electronic readers, this device uses a digital pen and ultra-thin 13.3-inch display size of a paper format A4. Possibility of new items have been demonstrated in a thematic trade show in Japan.

It is the world’s first display, in which technology is implemented E Ink Mobius, developed by E Ink with by Sony. Japanese engineers put precision thin-film transistors on flexible plastic panel instead of glass, giving the display flexibility and ease.

“As a rule, the thin film transistors are arranged between the glass panels. Here, we used plastic instead of glass, which had a considerable impact on the weight of the device. Another feature of this plastic panel is strength, “- said the representative of Sony.

A prototype of a digital notebook weighs only 358 grams with a slim 6.8 millimeters. The weight of the display whose resolution is 1200 x 1600 pixels does not exceed 60 grams, 50 percent less than in the case of glass. Battery charge will last about three weeks of the device when the power Wi-Fi.

The presented version of the Sony Reader works only with PDF-files. The user is allowed to make changes to a document and store the result in the device memory, which at any moment can be increased at the expense of memory cards microSD.

Here is the PDF. Its pages can scroll with your finger. Also, they can write comments and draw. Marker can point the cursor and highlight text.

For example, while writing can free hand draw on the screen is a digital notebook that is not always possible when working on the tablet.

Mass production of reader using e-paper is planned for the second half of the year. The target audience Sony is considering universities and other educational institutions. In the near future the device will be tested by students of Japanese universities. Its business, improved version will be available by the end of 2013.

The success of e-notebook Sony will largely depend on the stated price. Since the energy saving reader is seen as an alternative to paper books and workbooks, to him, specifically, may be of interest. I think many people agree with me.
