Sony will stream games from PS4 to allow Windows and Mac

Sony is working on a program for Windows and Mac to allow streaming games from the PlayStation 4. Remote Play now still works only on Sony smartphones and Sony’s own handheld Vita console.

The app is available for both Windows and OS X, Sony CEO Shuhei Yoshida made known on Twitter. He said nothing about availability of the application for Linux distros. It is the first time that Sony rule on the stream function for mainstream desktops.

Remote Play Sony released last year for the Vita and several Xperia smartphones. Developers should also support the Remote Play feature, so all games will have to work. With Remote Play, it is possible to play games without the TV where the PS4 is linked to turn. That makes it possible to play games while the TV by someone else in the household is in use. That stream is via local Wi-Fi network.

In addition to the PS4 supports the xbox one all the games streaming to desktops, a feature in Microsoft’s latest operating system Windows 10. It is unknown when the Remote Play software for Windows and Mac will be released.
