Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Review
Sony’s startup in tablet market was a little shady but gradually they started gaining momentum and soon they have their act together. The market of tablets is slightly struggling at the moment but Sony seem unfazed and determined to make their mark. Last year Xperia Z tablet came out and it was one of the best Android tablets last year.
Recently, Sony released its latest Xperia Z2 tablet. One thing about Sony as a manufacturer you cannot deny is, that they are not shy of making updates and releasing devices frequently. For example, on the smartphone front: There’s more coming from the Sony stable too with the Xperia Z3 phone already in the works, the Z3 benchmark tests are already out.

So coming back to Sony’s latest release Xperia Z2, it has some similarities with its predecessor Xperia Z but there are some notable upgrades as well. Let’s take a look at detailed review of the tablet.

Design

Design of Xperia Z2 leaves a bit to be desired. Not to say it is bad looking but there is nothing spectacular either – it is just OK. The tablet is slim that is a plus point, but the rest of it is very plain – round power button, curved edges and an attractive looking corporate logo on the tablet’s front. Xperia Z2 tablet is just 6.35mm thick and weighs just under one pound which makes it one of the most slim and slender tablets around.

Hardware

On the hardware front, things get interesting. Xperia Z2 tablet boasts Quad-core 2.2Ghz snapdragon processor with 3G RAM.

The display is one of the greatest features of Z2; it offers 10.1 inch IPS display of a supreme quality. The screen resolution stands at 1920 X 1200. Various expert reviewers say that Z2’s screen is the main attraction and might supersede all the competition. Judging by Sony’s past it is hard to imagine the color and picture quality that equals Samsung tablets but this time we might be in for a good competition.

The tablet, like all other major flagships offers basic features like Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. However, the battery may be the talking point but not for the bad reasons. Z2 packs a solid 6,000mAH battery with decent timings – certainly more than iPad experts say.

In my opinion the real down point is its ordinary camera. 8.1 megapixels camera does gel well with the software and offers various effects and features but the image quality leaves a lot to be desired. I’d say camera is a little bit of a let-down.

Software

Xperia Z2 tablet runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Some people do criticize KitKat to be a difficult OS but Z2’s well-designed UI and user-friendliness combines fabulously with the device. The device is fast, easy and bug-free.

As for the updates, we can be sure that they will be coming thick and fast as is the trend with KitKat.

Our verdict

We hold Sony Xperia Z2 tablet in high regard. It is a well-balanced tablet that offers good value. Our rating is 7.8/10.
