SpaceX relieves ten percent of employees to invest in projects

SpaceX has indicated that it will fire about 600 employees. The reason for the dismissal is that the company must ‘lose weight’ in order to be able to continue to invest in future projects, such as rocket development.

The redundancies amount to about 10 percent of the total workforce of SpaceX. A spokesman told Reuters that the space business should be slimmer to face future challenges. Specifically, the development of interplanetary missiles and the creation of ‘space internet’ were mentioned.

SpaceX previously said that it wants to bring a network of satellites into orbit around the earth with the name Starlink, with which not only internet on earth can be provided, but also interplanetary. To do so, thousands of satellites have to be launched, something that requires a large budget.

As far as interplanetary travel is concerned, SpaceX is focusing primarily on the development of the Spaceship, formerly known as Big Falcon Rocket. This rocket must be able to transport astronauts and must be used for missions to Mars. Recently, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk showed a picture of a test model.

For these purposes, SpaceX thinks that it needs extra money, despite making a profit in its own words. However, there are also noises that no profit is made at all; Because SpaceX does not release quarterly figures, the data can not be checked.
