google The Spanish publishers want the Spanish government and the European competition authorities to take measures to reverse the closure of Google News, reports The Spain Report. According to the trade association of the newspapers, AEDE, the closure of Google News in the country ‘not just the loss of a service’ because of the dominant position that would occupy the site.

Google announced to close Thursday at Google News in Spain. The company does not want to cooperate with a law asking newspaper publishers required money from Google News for recording their websites. According to Google, it is not tenable to pay publishers, because Google News itself earns no money. The site will be closed Tuesday, before the law on January 1 will enter into force.

AEDE was just one of the driving forces of the law; thus it seems that the organization does not want the law to be reversed, but that Google News remains open and that Google will pay for the references to Spanish newspapers.
