Start-up develops mini PC with Cinnamon desktop on top Ubuntu




Start-up Imp tries through IndieGoGo to collect enough money to bring the eponymous mini PC based on a Samsung Exynos 4412 Prime-soc on the market. The compact Imp will run by default on Ubuntu LTS 14:04 and offer the Cinnamon desktop.

The Exynos4412 Prime soc Samsung is clocked at 1.7GHz and includes four Cortex A9 cores and a Mali 400 GPU. The processor is placed on a Odroid U3 mother sign that measures 83x48mm. There is 2GB DDR2 RAM along with present, depending on the version, 8 or 16GB of internal flash storage. Via a micro SD card or internal EMMC socket storage can be increased further.

The Imp can be connected to a monitor or TV via the micro HDMI connector. Further, the compact computer 100Mbit Ethernet port, analog audio output, a micro-USB port and three USB 2.0 ports. To create a wifi connection is a USB stick using the RTL8188 chipset included.

The start-up installs default Ubuntu LTS 14:04 with the Cinnamon desktop environment. The company states that standard users can access data in a variety of commercial and open cloud storage services. Will Imp Kodi, the successor of XBMC for install. There are also plans to approach using an iOS and Android app content on the Imp remotely.

The Israeli Imp hopes through his IndieGoGo project to raise $ 100,000 to bring the mini-PC on the market. Should that happen, the Imp in March should come to the market with an expected price of around $ 200, or 160 euros for the 8GB edition.
