Starting January 13, Microsoft stops supporting basic Windows 7




January 13 deadline for the main support Windows 7 operating system, shows a message on the official website of Microsoft. From that day the company moves to phase Extended Support: users will be able to receive only critical patches and security updates.


Microsoft decided to “potrollit” users expiring core support of some key products, including all versions of Windows 7. Period core support is usually 5 years, during which the company provides free patches and fixes, both in terms of security and in terms of functional. At the end of this period, Microsoft provides extensive support for another 5 years, during which security patches are also free, and all other corrections require special (paid) licenses. After completion of the period of extended support Microsoft provides no updates, no paid nor free, nor security, nor in functionality.

January 13 during the main support comes to an end for all versions of Windows 7 (Enterprise, Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate and Starter) and the corresponding versions with installed Service Pack 1. The period of extended support of Windows 7 expires on January 14, 2020.

Some experts believe that Microsoft, may shift the date of the end support for Windows 7, because of its popularity, but so far there have been no official announcement from Microsoft on this.

January 13 and will expire during the main support for all versions of Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, and also for all versions of Windows Storage Server 2008. In July period expires expanded support of Windows Server 2003, that is, the product will be completely written off as Windows XP.
