Find a Question:
Steam fits review system with display of recent reviews
Steam has adjusted the presentation of reviews of games. The platform now displays both a score of reviews that have been made in the last thirty days, as an overall score. The new system must give a fairer picture of the current status of games.
Previously Steam games showed at an average of all the ratings given by players in a game. Games that contain at the time of visiting many bugs, or around introducing other problems with it, often are settled in there. Once the problems have been solved, those criticisms are probably not representative and the average score can therefore give a distorted picture, says Steam.
When games are now seen two scores, an average of the last thirty days and an average of the total score. The new “recent” score is shown as a game is on Steam at least 45 days; there is a certain number of reviews have to be given for the display. The total score remains and is unchanged compared to the previous situation.
Steam also change the order in which extensive written reviews are shown. Recent reviews identified as helpful by other users are now placed higher in the list. Even with this measure Steam wants to create a fairer picture of the current status of games. Furthermore, Steam has added a checkbox that reviewers can tick to indicate that they have received the game free of charge to post a review.
