Laptop market saw the first decline since 2002, cascaded
Global shipments fell to laptops by 6.9 percent during the second quarter of 2013, compared to the first quarter of the year, according to a report published by IHS Research Foundation today.
Laptop market includes both the notebook computers, and computers (ultrabook). Usually the light demand on these devices at the beginning of the year and then back to rise during the second quarter, but this is the first time that the market witnessed consecutive decline since 2002.
According to the report, the slowdown in sales has been extended to cover the first half of the year, falling shipments of portable computers during the first half of 2013 by 11.2 percent compared with the first half of 2012, making the first half of this year, the worst performance for this market since 2003.
The study attributes this decline to the increased popularity of tablets, thanks to the user ease of use and distinctive character. “Craig stais” analyst at IHS that slowed the creativity in the personal computer market, with low-cost tablets, this contributed to devour tablets is part of the laptop market.
