Thanks to the newly received images from cameras near and far-infrared space telescope “Hubble» (NASA) and the “Herschel”, we have the opportunity to see the famous Nebula Horsehead with a stunning new way. The nebula is located 1,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Orion, just south of Alnitak – the easternmost star of this famous belt. Also known as Barnard 33, the nebula stretched about five light-years away and is very popular not only among professionals, but also among amateur astronomers.

It is noteworthy that this picture was taken in honor of the 23rd anniversary since the launch of the space observatory aboard the shuttle “Discovery”, which took place on 24 April 1990. Unlike conventional optical light image Horsehead , which looks quite dark chamber “Hubble” allows you to see the nebula in almost every detail and makes it against the background of the Milky Way is almost transparent. The picture was also obtained by the camera Wide Field Camera 3, which is installed on the telescope in 2009.

Ultraviolet light from the two brightest stars in the upper part of the nebula by guesswork scientists is the result of the evaporation of the nebula itself – some of the surrounding gas clouds have disappeared.
