Switzerland will from mid-2017 universal chargers for smartphones




Switzerland has decided it may be that can be charged via a universal cable sold only smartphones from the summer of 2017. Thus, the Swiss follow a European directive which must also come into force in 2017.

The Swiss authorities establish that the telecom laws be amended in the country in order to force them to support a universal charger manufacturers. The intention is to bring into line with that of the EU legislation and in order to reduce the amount of electronic waste. Next year the new legislation, but producers of mobile phones still have a year to comply with the legislation.

Earlier it was already in the European Union agreed that a universal charger should be mandatory. As in Switzerland, it is intended that the legislation beginning in 2017. Incidentally must be passed before still the political stumbling blocks. Thus, Member States have to draft national legislation before the new rules can be effectively implemented. Switzerland is the first country which already has national legislation, which the EU rules take effect.

Switzerland hopes that the legislation harmonizing the technical requirements for smartphone manufacturers with those of the EU. Thus, products for the European market will also be admitted automatically in Switzerland, and vice versa. The Swiss are in fact not a member of the EU, but they do often recognize each other’s legislation to facilitate market access.

One of the manufacturers that might get in trouble with the new rules is Apple. Which maintains its own technology with the Lightning port. Most other manufacturers use micro-usb, and this standard makes good chance to be chosen as the connector to support businesses. Incidentally, Apple at an earlier stage probably already indicated, a kind lightning-to-USB converter to deliver them to be able to meet the rules.
