The US Federal Aviation Authority, or FAA, has started a closed beta test of its app b4ufly, which should inform its users whether they are flying with their drone in an area where it is also dangerous and may be prohibited. According to the FAA, the iOS version of b4ufly is now being rolled out to approximately 1000 beta testers. The test should continue for several months and in the future, an Android version is also needed on the market. By the end of 2015 the release version of b4ufly should be finished. The app is mainly intended for people who as a hobby drone flying. B4ufly uses two indicators: yellow means the app no restrictions or requirements can find a drone flight, and red means that flying is not allowed. In areas where there is no wifi or mobile internet, the app does not. The FAA is developing the app because in recent years it has become more and more reports of drones that are too close to airports, large groups of people and manned aircraft. Such situations can lead to fatal accidents. US users are required to notify an air traffic controller when they use their drone within eight kilometers of an airport. The FAA previously gave the phone number of the controllers in question, but because the call to the tower also can disturb the work of air traffic controllers, the FAA now considering sending an electronic notification to the towers. Also Netherlands and Belgium are working on integrating drones into society. Hobbyists may only fly over private property in Belgium and a drone will not be higher than 30 meters. Also hobbyists must comply with the privacy rules. In the Netherlands everyone by October 1 with a drone from 4kg to fly, but the pilot must ensure that the drone a minimum horizontal distance to include buildings and groups of people operates from 50 meters. The mini-drone should not be higher than 50 meters and not greater than 100 meters away from the driver. Drones have themselves 50 meters distance from each other and “give priority” to other air traffic. Finally, it should not be flown within a radius of 5km from airfields.
