TCL has concept smartphone that can be folded into a smartwatch

TCL has filed a patent application that shows the one concept of a smartphone that can be folded as a smartwatch. The company had already expressed an interest in foldable smartphones, but clear plans were not yet known.

The company itself did not publish the plans in a big way, but the plans can be read from a patent application. Cnet discovered the plans and also succeeded in getting renders from the foldable smartphones. From one of those images it can be seen that TCL is considering folding users their smartphone in such a way that it can be worn around the wrist. In total, TCL would work on around five foldable devices, including two tablets, according to Cnet.

Whether the shown foldable smartphones actually come on the market remains unclear. Although TCL itself has already indicated that it works on a smartphone that can be folded, not all products described in patent applications are actually released. Cnet also states that TCL can still adjust or delete its plans. TCL itself did not respond to the reporting.

TCL is mainly known in Europe from its BlackBerry smartphones. The company has a license on the brand and can therefore sell smartphones under this name.
