Tele2 activates 4g + in all its masts

Tele2 has 4g + switched on its network. The provider now uses all frequencies for which the licenses purchased. The provider is not going to go to 4G in the Netherlands offer via LTE on 5GHz. That says technical director Francois Mairey of Tele2 Netherlands.

Tele2 has all antennas with both 800Mhz and 2.6GHz equipped, making 4g + works everywhere, Mairey says in an interview with Tweakers. In practice, thanks to 4G +, where phones at multiple frequencies can communicate simultaneously with a base station, the download speed up to about 40 to 80Mbit / s. In theory, it rises up to 225Mbit / s.

Tele2 therefore used all its spectrum for 4G +, but there is now a new technology that providers can use to screw up further speed: LTE you, 4g through the freely usable 5 GHz spectrum. Mairey not think it would work well in the Netherlands. “The Netherlands is a country with many Wi-Fi networks, even on the same 5GHz. If we use it for our 4G network, which I think too busy.”

The 4G network covers now 80 percent of the Netherlands, where 92 percent of the population lives. Tele2 will have national coverage within four months. Although all masts 4g + have the previously used frequency of 2.6GHz reaches far fewer than the 800 MHz frequency. It is not known how high the percentage coverage of the 4G network is +.

Tele2 announced Wednesday his new subscriptions, the first since its 4G network went live earlier this year. Despite previous problems with the transfer are now about 400,000 customers in the 4G network: 30.000 do have a device with 4G, but sitting on old accounts, which they are not competent to 4g according to the provider.
