Tele2 starts with release option for calls over 4G

Tele2 starts with offering calls over 4G. The provider has a fallback to 3G and 2G network of T-Mobile, allowing customers to keep calling if the signal would fall through 4g away. Tele2 is the only one in the Netherlands to switch back to a different network.

If customers want to use 4G, the manufacturer of their device must push an update to activate the option in the software, says the provider. Before an update is released, and Tele2 have the first manufacturer the function dial test over 4g of the actual device. It is unknown how many customers of Tele2 can call through 4g. Calling via 4g called VoLTE, Voice-over-LTE.

The step Tele2 claims to be the first mobile operator in the world where customers can always stay on the 4G network. The provider in the Netherlands only a 4G network is 3G and 2G dependent on T-Mobile.

After Tele2 will soon follow other Dutch providers. KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile all want to offer VoLTE this year. The ISP call the shorter time required for the setting up of the connection and the improved quality of the sound as well as benefits of the technology.
