Telenet comes with separate data bundle for Whatsapp

, FB Messenger and own apps

Telenet comes with a separate, free data bundle with its Wigo subscriptions, from which the data usage of WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Telenet’s own apps goes. The data bundle varies from 20GB to 100GB per family.

If the separate data bundle for WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Telenet’s own apps is exhausted, the data will depend on the regular data bundle, explains Telenet . Anyone who has used up his regular data bundle can no longer use the apps in the separate data bundle, according to the provider. The data bundle for WhatsApp, FB Messenger, Yelo Play and Play Sports is much larger than the regular data bundle.

The service is called ‘Free G’ and customers can activate it free of charge. Only customers with a Wigo subscription can do so. The subscription seems to be at odds with European rules on net neutrality, but according to the provider that is not the case, writes Knack . Telenet claims to have submitted the separate data bundle to the telecommunications authority Bipt. “We also conducted a test during the summer which shows that with this proposition we maintain the rules of net neutrality and that we give our customers extra space within their regular data bundle to discover or use other apps,” says spokeswoman Isabelle Geeraerts.

Although the subscription according to Telenet does not go against the rules, it goes against the principle of net neutrality. Thanks to this adjustment, Telenet customers have a larger data bundle for Telenet’s streaming service than that of a competitor such as Netflix. In addition, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are given priority over competitors of other companies such as Snapchat, Telegram, Signal, Wechat and Apple iMessage.
