Telenet does not yet come to the promised speed of 1Gbit / s

Telenet is unable to offer fixed internet with speeds of 1 Gbit / s by 2019. The Belgian provider announced that this speed boost would be ‘by 2019’, but must now admit that the promise was premature.

Telenet announced two years ago that customers would be able to surf with gigabit speeds from 2019, about five times as fast as today. Until a few days ago that promise was also prominent on the website of the operator, but now the words ‘by 2019’ have changed to ‘in the near future’.

Possible reason was a tweet from @ToMiKoN to the address of Telenet, in which the operator was confronted with the fact that 2018 is almost over. “We pay more and you do not deliver? Do you keep your promise?”

In a reaction Telenet let it be known that 2019 as a start date was a bit premature. “Of course we are working hard to get the network ready for gigabit speeds, but we can not give a concrete date yet.” Telenet puts a total of half a billion euros in the upgrade of its fixed network. To guarantee speeds of 1Gbit / s, the equipment has to be modernized in around 200 municipalities.
